Obituary for Eduard Friederich Fischer

EDUARD Friederich FISCHER, March 28, 1923 - October 13, 2020

On October 13, 2020, Eduard Friederich Fischer, most recently of Squamish BC and formerly of West Vancouver, BC, passed away peacefully at Squamish General Hospital at the age of 97 years. An active senior, Ed was still driving his car 3 days before.

A native of Vienna, Austria, Eduard brought his family to Canada in 1953, where they settled in North Vancouver. A mechanical engineer, he built up a successful manufacturing business that took him and his wife all over the world on business trips. He also had a passion for glider piloting and skiing, which he kept up into his eighties. He began flying gliders in Austria at age 11 and was the youngest licensed pilot in that country at 14.

Eduard will be sadly missed by his wife of 72 years, Erna Maria (nee Lacina), sons Eduard Franz (Helen) and Allen Norman (Carol); and granddaughters Maxine Devi, Shaela Elise, and Jennifer Star.

Erna and Ed grew up together as neighbours in Vienna and had known each other for over 90 years.

In lieu of a service, friends, family and other loved ones are invited to visit an on-line memorial to be announced.

I have learned with great sadness of the passing of Ed and I want to express my deepest sympathy to you, Erna, and the family. I have so many wonderful memories of spending Heurigenabend with Walter in your house and walzing with Ed at our annual Johann Strauss Ball. Your Kaffee and Kuchen afternoons were always filled with very interesting conversation and a lot of laughter. Heri and Lisbeth Holzer also send their heartfelt sympathy. I will always remember Ed with a warm smile and my heart reaches out to you with love. Anneliese Egger

Karl Heinz & Elsbeth Kupka

Heinz & Elsbeth Kupka It is with great shock and sadness that we heard of Ed's passing. It was only a day earlier that we talked to Ed on the phone and joked about hanging in until our 100th birthday. To Erna and the family we express our sincere condolences and deep felt sympathy. Ed was a proud Canadian, yet his Austrian soul retained a deep love of the Austrian mountains, cuisine and culture. He was a much loved and admired member of the Austro-Canadian circle and a true friend. Our thoughts are with you dear Erna. Heinz and Elsbeth Kupka, West Vancouver.
