Obituary for Ulrike Moodie

It is with great sadness to share that Ulrike passed away on the evening of November 29. Ulrike was predeceased by her Father Hermann and by her beloved Son Jeremy. She is survived by her Mother Karolina, Daughter Jessica (Dan), Grandchildren Emily and Alex. Her sisters Monika (David) and Angela (Ron). Niece and Nephew Kristina (Steve) and Kevin (Dayna). Her best friend Sharon (Richard) and family friend Karen. Many extended family in Ontario and Tennessee.

Ulrike was born in Esslingen, Germany. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1959 where they resided in Vancouver, on Oliver Cres. She and her family lived for a few years in Kamloops but years later moved back to the family home in Vancouver. In 1985 she moved to Squamish and that became Home and still is to her children. She worked for the Conservation Office for 13 years as the Admin, it was a job she loved. She frequently brought abandoned baby animals home overnight before they went to a rescue, which her young kids loved.

Ulrike loved the Outdoors, camping and hiking. Many weekends were spent on the 4 Lakes Trail with her family, to this day it's always been a favorite place. Every Christmas she would hike out deep into the forest and pick the biggest tree to bring home and decorate. It was always a fun adventure that she looked forward to. She enjoyed going up to 100 Mile house to her sister’s cabin. She loved to fish and be out on the lake. One time they ran out of gas in the boat and spent the day on the water until someone came looking for them. She has been friends with Sharon since they were teenagers, and throughout life they stayed close, their children all growing up together.

The last 4 years of her illness she resided in the Youthville Residence in Vancouver, where she was their longest resident and they cared for her like family. There is still a sadness felt on the 5th floor by all those that knew her. Ulrike was a very strong woman, she smiled and kept her witty sense of humour till the end.

No service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. She will be buried at Mount Garibaldi Cemetery where she will rest with her Son.
