Obituary for Rainer Erich Schwarz

Rainer Erich Schwarz
August 27, 1942 — September 27, 2018

Born in Stuttgart/Feuerbach in Germany, Rainer passed away peacefully at home in Squamish on September 27, 2018. He will be forever remembered by wife Joanna, daughter Monika (Jackson, Berkley and Karenza), son Mike (Jeannette and Cayden) sisters Annelore (Ernst, Elke and Frank) and Charlotte (Reinhard, Stefan and Sibylle).

Rainer left Germany in 1968 for adventure in Canada. He and Joanna married and moved to Port Alice where he taught for two years. They arrived in Squamish in 1973.

Rainer was a dedicated family man. He especially loved his four grand children! Friends knew him as a teacher, counsellor, an avid hiker and outdoors man, a gardener, a traveler with trailer in tow, a member of the curling club, a singer with the Sea to Sky Singers, a Canucks hockey fan and a steadfast member of Squamish United Church.

He was kind, generous and thoughtful. When he spoke people listened. He is remembered for his positive attitude. Joanna called him her “miracle man”. He was a pancreatic cancer survivor for the past six years. Every day was a bonus and he was grateful!

The Service of Celebration takes place at the Roundhouse in the Railway Museum on Saturday, October 13 at 1:30 pm. Visit the Squamish Funeral Chapel website for photos and to share your stories.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Cudmore, Dr. Louise Martin, Dr. Kristen Siemens, Dr. Brenda Millar and the nurses and staff at Squamish Hospital for their compassionate care.
