Obituary for Pauline Mary Nicholson (Robinson)
Pauline Mary Nicholson passed away on March 15, 2021 at the age of 92.
Pauline was predeceased by husband Eric, parents Walter and Pauline Robinson, brother and sister-in-law Halden and Dorothy Robinson, and brother-in-law Gregg Armstrong.
She is survived by sons John (Teri) and George, sister Dona Armstrong, sister-in-law Norma Noon (John), nephew Mark Armstrong (Fran), niece Pauline Josey (Ronnie), and many dear lifelong friends.
Pauline was born on October 28, 1928 in Orillia, Ontario. Her father was an OPP officer and the family lived in communities throughout Ontario including Allison, Collingwood, Parry Sound and Bracebridge.
In the late 1950’s mom struck out on her own and moved to Kitimat BC and it was there that she met and married Eric Nicholson. Eric and Pauline moved to Creston BC where sons John and George were born. In 1965 they made their final move to Squamish, BC.
In Squamish, mom was very active in all aspects of small town life including in the Anglican church, the school, lacrosse, curling, swimming, and Loggers Sports. In the late 1970’s Pauline took the front desk job at the always boisterous Chieftain Hotel on Friday and Saturday nights. She became well known for her fair but firm policies and always lent a friendly ear.
Upon retirement, Pauline and Eric began a 10-year odyssey of travelling throughout Canada and the world. After Eric passed in 2007 Pauline continued her travels with her sister, sister-in-law and sons.
In every community that she lived and in every aspect of her life, Pauline established strong friendships that she maintained her entire life, including with Don and Edie from Kitimat and several pen pals who were friends for over 60 years.
It was in Squamish where Pauline had some of her best times with friends Ann Louise, Elaine C, Gail, Elaine R, Diane, and Connie who did everything with each other, from raising families, to socializing, celebrating, and helping out whenever there was a need.
The family is grateful to these friends who were so important to Pauline and who stayed in touch right to the end.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of Shannon Falls Retirement Residence and Inglewood Care Centre where Pauline spent the last years and months of her life.

A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held at a later date pending COVID policies on gatherings.
