Obituary

Patricia Lynn Walker passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children, on January 15th 2021, in the mountains of Birken, BC.

Born to Rebecca and Orval (Pete) Hay, in Barrie Ontario; Patty spent her youth figure skating, travelling with her school band, playing tennis and swimming with her friend Ann, her sister Linda and brother Bill. High School graduation found her pursuing a nursing degree, which led to her early nursing work in Banff, and at Toronto’s Sick Kids Hospital. During her time working as a nurse in Ontario, Pat married David Walker. They had 4 children
together before moving west to Vancouver, and settling in the snow capped mountains of Whistler, BC. As a single mother, after the death of her husband, Pat worked hard to keep her children in their beloved Whistler, always displaying her characteristic strength, vibrant positivity and consummate passion for the togetherness of family.

A quintessential caregiver, Trish worked for most of her life as a nurse. She spent much of her later career in the fast paced environment of Vancouver General’s Vascular & Acute Surgery wing of T8, where she formed many close working friendships with her colleagues, retiring in May of 2020.

With a vital and true love of life, Pat gave her all in everything she did. Whether celebrating her children’s accomplishments and playing with her grandchildren; skiing in Whistler; swimming in the wind swept waves of Nicaragua; travelling through North America, Europe, and Bali; enjoying a luncheon with friends on The North Shore; camping on the Northwest Coast of Vancouver Island; or just floating with a cold beer in a Sea to Sky lake, Pat’s infectious smile and enjoyment of each day was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Pat is survived by her beloved family, including sister Linda; children Rebekka, David, Sarah & Rachel; daughter and sons in-law: Robyne, Scott and Zack; and her 3 (almost 4) grandchildren Arlo, Everly and Maya, with baby de Jong soon to arrive.

A selfless, caring soul who will be missed dearly; she walked through life with grace and grit,
always knowing its beauty.

In gratitude for their support, compassion and care during her battle with cancer, donations may be made to The Sea to Sky Hospice Society or BC Cancer Foundation in honor of Pat.

I am sorry this memory is so late in coming... I just saw the link now.

I was blessed to get to know your mom while we worked at Grand River (K-W) Hospital in Kitchener. We remained friends and raised our babies together, and shared so much during those early years. I was happy we could spend more time together while we lived in BC, then I had time again when she came back to Barrie to update her nursing license. I will miss not being able to share with her about her life and yours, and spending time while on my vacations in BC.
She was like a sister to me and we had so much in common! She loved each of you and her grand babies... you were the first thing she would talk about, the joy of her life! I know her death leaves a void that nothing can fill.
Please know that each of my kids shared memories about time spent with you and "Aunt Trish". She won't be forgotten!

Rebekka ,David ,Sarah & Rachel,
Your Mom has been very special to so many people , throughout her life .
From our teenage years , in Barrie and through the decades , Patti's infectious smile ,her twinkling eyes and her great head of hair made her stand out in a crowd , as someone you would be fortunate to count as a friend .
Whether it had bee 6 days or 6 years ,I always looked forward to catching up over a quick coffee and a Beavertail at Whistler or
a lazy lunch & a glass of wine on the shore of English Bay .
She was so proud of all of you !
I have no doubt that she lives on in each one of you ,in so many different ways . I saw it in your fall family photo taken on the shore of English Bay , that Wanda shared . One couldn't miss the smiles , the twinkling eyes & yes the curls , that I recognized in both you and your wee ones !
Cherish those memories of the last few months.....as hard as they must have been .......you gave her " THE GIFT OF FAMILY " which I am sure meant to world to her .
May memories of times shared together in the past , warm your hearts in the future , when you need them the most .
Linda Gooderham
