Obituary for Marilyn Anne Kiauka

Sadly Marilyn Anne (Hatto) Kiauka passed away on Sep 10, 2019 in Squamish BC after a second battle with cancer.

Marilyn was born in St. Stephen NB, the oldest of 6 children. The family moved to Newcastle NB when she was one year old and then made another move to Saint John NB when she was 15. At the age of 21 she made the bold move ( at least her siblings felt that way) to the "big city" of Vancouver. Thank goodness she did because that was where she met Rudi, her husband of 44 years. Together they raised two sons, Eric and Stephen, of which Marilyn was so very proud. When her daughter-in-law Magda came into her life, Marilyn felt Magda was the daughter she never had. Actually she was more than a daughter, they were truly best friends. Her grandchildren Kaylee and Matthew meant the world to her. She was their Oma. Marilyn once again felt very blessed when Erics partner Courtney joined the family. She felt so lucky to have such a wonderful family.

The fact is we were the lucky ones to have her in our lives. Marilyn made an impression on everyone, no matter where she went or whether she met you only once. Her lovely presence and her genuine interest in people made her unforgettable.

To her siblings she was the strong one, the person we looked up to and tried to emulate. We thought she could do anything! She was a take charge lady and could always get things done. We could rely on her to always be there for us with her kind, thoughtful and generous ways

In addition to her immediate family Marilyn is survived by her brother Jim and sisters Susan and Teresa. She was predeceased by sisters Janet and Peggy as well as her parents Mae and Norman.
She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews who always felt special after spending time with her…..Tracey, Tim, Sara, Sean and Nick. She was dearly loved by a large extended family.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held in the near future. Please check the funeral home website for updates in the next few days.

And Marilyn wouldn't want you to be sad. She wanted the celebration of her life to involve a glass of wine and sharing of laughter. Just remember her beautiful smile with a smile on your face……...that part, we know, will be easy ❤️

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 21st at the Backyard Pub, located at 1907 Maple Drive, Squamish BC.

The family invites you to drop in between 1-5pm to share your memories of Marilyn.
