Obituary for Lois Sokolan (Hurren)

Celebration of Life Saturday July 16, 2022 11:00 a.m. Squamish Funeral Chapel

Lois Sokolan, a life-long resident of windy Squamish, BC, passed away
unexpectedly on December 21, 2021, at the young age of 70.
Lois was born on January 15, 1951, to her birth-mother, Barbara Bruce, and
was raised from birth by her parents, Crystal and Harvey Hurren, to whom she
immediately brought joy.
Lois met her first husband, Barry Sokolan and they went on to have two
children, Christopher and Katie. Though their relationship turned out to be less
permanent than either of them expected, both went on to happily remarry.
Lois married Bruce Neighbor in 1991, forming a blended family. Lois and
Bruce had an increasingly loving partnership throughout their 30 years
together, and went on many traveling adventures together through the U.S.,
Canada, the U.K. and a few cruises. They even enjoyed camping locally in
their “MoHo”. Lois and Bruce were truly best friends and wonderful
teammates.
Lois worked at BC Rail for the entirety of her working years, and truly enjoyed
her work and formed wonderful friendships with her colleagues, with whom
she kept in touch through facebook groups and coffee dates.
Lois was a passionate scrapbooker and crafter, and when she wasn’t filling
her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her “scrap room”
working on her beautiful handmade albums or at a crop with her “scrappy
friends”, and researching genealogy. Lois also very much loved to spend time
working in her garden and it was the place that gave her peace, connection,
and pure joy.
Lois was a wonderful and loving person who gave her all to her family - she
dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother, grandmother,
and wife to Bruce. Family was extremely important to Lois and she excelled
at propping up members of her family and supporting them through the many
passions and difficulties of their lives, including helping many through
illnesses and passing-on. Lois was a caring and giving person who always put
the needs of her family before her own. Lois was one of the strongest, most
courageous and kindest women to ever walk this earth and her family was
blessed to have her as the queen of their family. Being a mother was one of

the most important parts of Lois’s life, a role that gave her much pride and joy.
She was an excellent mum, supportive, kind and hilarious.
Lois was predeceased by many beloved family members. Lois is survived by
her birth-mother Barbara, husband Bruce, son Chris, daughter Kate
(Jonathan), step-daughter Kristine, step-son Kelly, grandchildren Desiree,
Jacob, Kayl, Maria, Alexa and Megan, her dog Luna, her brother Pat (Shelly),
her half-brother John (Le), her niece, nephews, and many cousins. She is
missed dearly.
