Obituary for Linda Lou McDermott (Mayhew)

We gave Linda back on December 4 in the hospice in Squamish, BC. She had been in hospital for a month with pneumonia and heart attack. During the last three years she had become progressively weak and bedridden at home. Linda was a family physician in Haileybury, a nursing home physician and director of the women’s shelter. She led girl Guides. She used her energy in the horse club and the fall fair. She was active in third world development travelling to Honduras, Guatemala, India, Sri lanka and the Phillippines. Those who knew her understand the inadequacy of this list. There was usually an extra teenager staying at the farm and occasionally a family. “Linda’s girls” were welcome in the barn to ride and learn horsemanship. Her love was shared by Tom and sons Dan,Gavin (spouse Jackie) and Henry (spouse Sabrina); as well as sister Jean Ann Cooney, brothers Rick and Ed Mayhew. She lived this life to the fullest and now exhausted was ready to move on. Her ashes will be
buried at the family home in Mount Currie BC. No funeral no flowers. Contributions to International development through World Accord (http://www.worldaccord.org/ would be welcomed. Smile at a stranger today and hug a friend-that was Linda’s way.
