Kyle Samuel Olmsted
September 9, 1987-November 22, 2022
It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our youngest son, Kyle, who chose the end of his life on November 22, 2022.
Kyle is survived by his loving family - parents Alison and Roy, siblings Ryan, Jared (Krystel) and Courtney, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and niece - who are all deeply grieving his passing. He is predeceased by his adoring grandparents (Harry and Betty) (Patricia and Erle).
Kyle was born in Hong Kong, then moved with his family to Ontario when he was six years old. He grew up in Streetsville where he excelled in competitive gymnastics. He later discovered his love of snowboarding, which, after graduation from Thompson Rivers University, compelled his move to Whistler, British Columbia. There, Kyle was able to indulge in his passions - snowboarding, white water kayaking and, most of all, coaching. So, in Whistler he made his life, coming back to Ontario every year to get his family fix.
Kyle had a large Whistler family as well - friends, colleagues and parents of all the children he coached. He genuinely loved taking these children under his wing, guiding and encouraging them to be their best. He was proud of this work, and we are so very proud of him for it.
We know for certain that he put a smile on the faces of everyone who knew him and joy in their hearts. His was one of the biggest.
Kyle’s remains will be cremated and scattered in the two places that he loved, the mountains in Whistler and the lakes in Ontario. We will be doing this as a private family ceremony.
Condolences can be made via the Squamish Funeral Home website.
Lives are like rivers. They go where they must, not where we want them to go. And while Kyle is now gone from our physical embrace, his heart and soul will remain with us forever.
