Obituary for Joan Elizabeth Adlington (Dodson)
Monday May 18th just 2 days shy of her 84th birthday. She fought a long hard battle with chronic kidney disease and passed peacefully in her sleep.
She is survived by her children Kim (Lyall), Michelle (Dag), Jay, Lisa and Kari (Mike) her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan was born and raised in Port Arthur, (Thunder Bay) Ontario and moved out to BC in the 1950’s, later making Squamish her home.
An adventurer at heart Joan loved travel and history and often talked fondly of her times out on the ocean travelling to Alaska, combing the beaches for old Hudson Bay trading beads, indigenous artifacts and other hidden treasures.
Another favourite excursion of hers was going on road trips with her favourite routes being through the desert lands and discovering old ghost towns. She documented her journeys through scrap books and on maps, so she could always find new discoveries. Her favourite destination was visiting her childhood friend in Yucca Valley California and driving route 66.
Later on in life Joan was known to her adoring great-grandchildren as GG. You could find her puttering around her beloved, desert themed garden, creating fairy gardens out of modelling clay and old planters, or sitting in her chair working on Sudoku puzzles. On weekends she loved to go to the casino for lunch and play her slots.

I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free.”
