Obituary for Irene Parnell (Demchuk)

Remembering Irene Demchuk Parnell
March 3 1941 – July 27 2022

On July 27, we said goodbye to our beautiful Mom Irene Parnell. The past year has been a heartbreaking ordeal for our family as ALS took over her body. Through it all, Mom retained her positive outlook, her humour and her unwavering love of her family, friends, and a cold beer. She told us many times throughout the past year that she is thankful that she has had a long and happy life.

Irene was infinitely kind, thoughtful, adventurous, and strong. She loved her friends, her kids (Lara and Jeremy), her son in law (JF), and grandkids (Willow, Wednesday and Tristan) beyond measure and would have done anything in the world for us. She will be sorely missed by us all as well as her sister Helen, and her ex-husband John.

Irene was extremely outgoing and had many friends across the country who thought the world of her. During her illness many of her friends reached out with handmade gifts, cards, flowers, and phone calls. Irene and her family were so thankful of this. Knowing that she was so well-loved helps to ease the loss of her passing.

Due to the distance between Irene’s family and her friends across the country, we will be having a private family memorial in Pemberton. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family in the mountains, so we have decided that the best way to honour Irene is to fly via helicopter to the top of Mt. Currie (the mountain she could she out her window) to hold a small memorial there. We encourage everyone to remember Irene in their own way; have a get together to remember her or just raise a glass to this incredible person we were so fortunate to have in our lives.

We love you to infinity and beyond Mom. You were a bright light in all our lives’ and your light will shine on. We hope you’re having a cold one with a mountain view.
