Obituary for Graham Michael Haywood

Graham Haywood
July 12 1984 to December 28, 2020

Our much loved Graham left us far, far too soon.

Graham is survived by a loving wife, Heather, his parents Michael and Heather, Heather’s parents Dave and Sue, his brother and sister-in-law, David and Keri, two adoring and adored nephews, Luke and TJ, brother-in-law Ryan & sister-in-law Venetia and much loved niece Oliva and many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

To all of them Graham gave much. He was kind, loyal and honestly cared about us all. His love was incredibly deep for Heather, who brought him a level of joy that had long been missing. To all of us, though, Graham was decent, loving and steadfast. If he had not seen you for years, a good conversation to find out what had been happening in your life was his first task.

Graham is, to many, best known for his love of the mountains. It began with his brother David and his friend Jonathan at Grouse Mountain while still in high school. Graduation brought a move to Whistler, where he went from park, to peaks, to slack-country, to sled skiing, to snow biking. He loved to do each of these as best as he could. And with each shift (don’t forget mountain biking!) his enthusiasm had him bringing many others along with him.

Three years ago, a chance (or was it?) encounter at a Pemberton coffee shop had him meeting a woman who loved mountain biking. We all soon knew he had met the girl of his dreams. And thus he soon became a farm boy, with a contentment that was obvious. He loved his cows, his cat Rocky Dan, his dog Hobson and his many chickens. He had met his soul mate. We hear the phrase “and the two shall become one”, and sometimes it really is true.

Graham held two jobs over the last decade, first with the Lil’wat Nation as Land Manager and in recent years with the Squamish Lillooet Regional District as Senior Project Coordinator. He loved both places, and as he did with most things, gave them his all.

Graham, we miss you every day. We can’t wait to see you again.
