Obituary for Ellen Petrine Eliassen (Hansen)

Our wonderful mother, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2020 at the age of 100. Ellen was born on May 21, 1919 to Nikolena Jorgen Hansen. She was the youngest of nine children. She was raised in Leirosen, Leifjord, Norway in the family home.

She worked in the tourism industry in Norway until she married Ingolf in 1946. They resided in Sulitjelma, Norway until they immigrated to Canada in 1954. She traveled with her husband and children, Elsa and Roy to Thunder Bay, Canada. They lived in several communities until eventually settling in Squamish in 1985. She loved to serve her family and friends and was known for her cooking skills. She was also quick to learn languages and modestly said she just had an ear for that. She loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Reno, Mexico, and Alaska. She especially enjoyed her trip to Russia. She made many trips to Norway, where she maintained strong family ties. She was a talented seamstress and an amazing knitter. She continued to knit into her late nineties. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and a proud Canadian.

Ellen was predeceased by her husband, Ingolf in 1996. She is survived by her two children, Elsa (Charlie) and Roy; grandchildren Eric and Monica: three great grandchildren; extended family of many nieces and nephews in Norway, Ontario, Minnesota, and Oregon.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caring staff at Hilltop House and Dr. VanEden. A celebration of life will take place on March 8th, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Squamish Funeral Chapel. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Hilltop House Support Society in her name.
