Obituary for Doug Boyd

James Douglas Boyd
March 9, 1941 – July 21, 2020

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Doug Boyd, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, after a brief hard-fought battle with cancer. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Audrey, daughter Carrie, sons Greg (Brenda) and Don (Anita) and grandchildren Craig (Lauren) Kyle, Megan, Erin and Evan, and numerous other family members and friends. Doug was predeceased by his brother Donnie in 1948, and parents Bob and Helen Boyd.

Doug was born and raised in Chilliwack B.C., and after marrying Audrey in 1961, moved to the Queen Charlotte Islands to work in the logging and fishing industries. In 1965 he and Audrey moved the family to Squamish, where Doug and his business partner Ian, started their own falling company, and in later years, The Garden Centre.

Doug was a long time member of The Squamish Valley Golf Club, and one of the many volunteers that contributed to the development of the course on the banks of the Mamquam River. As a businessman and member of the Squamish Rotary Club, Doug volunteered his time for many local causes, sponsoring sports teams and supporting The Boy Scout Xmas Tree drive from The Garden Centre for over 20 years.

Along with Doug’s love of gardening, spending time with family, endless jokes and story telling; he and Audrey loved to travel, returning often to Kihei, Maui to vacation with family and friends.

After retiring in 2012, Doug could be found having coffee several days per week with the guys (you know who you are) solving the world’s problems or puttering in his beautiful garden.

We will miss his love, generosity, quick wit and sense of humour, that have left us with many happy memories.

The family wishes to Thank Drs. Cudmore and Parkin, the entire Oncology staff of The Squamish General Hospital, and the Drs. and staff of the Palliative Care Team for their care and compassion for our Dad.

As requested, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, Doug can best be remembered by donations to The Squamish Hospital Foundation; The Squamish Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.
