Obituary for Dorothy Anne "Doanne" Russell (Buchanan)
Dorothy Anne “Doanne” Russell passed away peacefully at the Squamish General Hospital on February 18th, 2019 at the age of 60. Doanne is survived by her loving husband Brian, her daughter Alysha, her step-children Brian(Nicole) and Danielle(Mike) and grandchildren Brooklyn, Bronx and Benson. She is also survived by her siblings Bridgette (Bill), Heather, Glydia (Randy) and John(Karin), as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Doanne was predeceased by her parents John and Dorothy.
Doanne fought extremely hard and courageously against kidney cancer, and was aided along by countless family, friends, doctors and nurses within and outside of her home. She spent her last days being cared for in the hospital and having her hands held and listening to stories from loved ones. Doanne was a long time resident of Squamish, and lended her time and heart to several aspects of the community, most prominently the Squamish Valley Equestrian Association . She expressed in her final days that she was dreaming of riding her first horse Jessie. Her family now knows she is engaging in her ultimate passion in heaven: teaching young children about horses.
There will not be a service, per Doanne’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doanne’s name to the Squamish General Hospital, The Canadian Cancer Society or the Squamish Valley Equestrian Association.
