Obituary for Dorothy Mai Hess (Bacon)

DOROTHY MAY HESS was born on March 20th, 1927 in Brighton England and passed away peacefully on Wed July 10, 2019 in Squamish at the age of 92. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Peter Hess. Dorothy married Peter Hess Nov 10, 1945. They spent their early married years in Brighton. After the end of the 2nd world war, Dorothy, Peter and her two sons Nigel and Graham, immigrated to Canada to start anew chapter in their lives. They sailed from Portsmouth England April 1951 and arrived in Canada May 1, 1951. They lived in St. Catherines initially and shortly two more children Kelvin and Ann arrived. The family lived in Barrie, Morrisburg and Port Credit until 1975. Then Dorothy and Peter made another move to West Vancouver BC that fall. Dorothy was a master at gardening. She truly had a gift and created beautiful landscapes with stone retaining walls and planters she built herself. She loved cooking, knitting, sewing and quilting. She made the most exquisite quilts. She was an accomplished skier, sailer and in her youth a competitive swimmer and instructor. Dorothy loved travel and her two favourite locations were Maui and Bermuda. Her true love was her family. She is remembered for her patience, understanding and willingness to listen, to provide unconditional love, support and guidance. She was kind, gentle person who will be fondly remembered by all who met her. Dorothy is survived by her children Nigel, Graham, Kevin and Ann and her grandkids, Jeffery, Stephen and Daniel, Jason and Leanne, Mathew and Ian (deceased), and her great grandkids Samantha, Kaitlyn, Allan, Ryland, Ashlyn, Grayson, Tyler and Pryce. Tyler and Pryce. Dorothy’s smile, kindness and outgoing nature will be missed by all who knew her it was a life well lived.
