Obituary for Doreen Margaret Barr

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen Barr, a deeply cherished wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Norman, her brother, Al McIntosh (Rene), her three sons, John (Kathy) of Lund, B.C., Allan (Teri) of Furry Creek, B.C., and Scott of Squamish, B.C. She will also be deeply missed by her beloved grandchildren: Amanda, Tricia, Kory, Christine and Tyler, and her five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Irene McIntosh.

Born in Winnipeg, she moved to Vancouver with her parents when she was 15. She completed her high school education at Vancouver Technical Secondary School (1951) and went onto pursue many career endeavours. It was while visiting her brother, Al, in Squamish, her bright blue eyes caught the attention of a young man named Norman. They fell in love, married in 1958 and began a beautiful life together filled with love, family and adventure.

Doreen’s generous heart embraced not only her family but her community, leading her to volunteer with many community organizations, such as, Chairman of the Timber Queen Pageant for Squamish Days, a Boy Scout Leader, director of the Rainbow School and fundraising for many local causes. Doreen’s life with Norman was full of adventures traveling, returning annually to Kihei, Maui, cruising Howe Sound on their boat, many long friendships and a very deep love for each other, their children, their five grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Doreen’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Squamish Funeral Chapel, 40440 Tantalus Road, Squamish, B.C. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donation to the Squamish Hospital Foundation.
