Our loving Mama, Anne, passed away peacefully at home with all four of her children present. Mama is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Laurie (Dan), Adrienne (Bruce), Lisa (Rick) and her son, Rory (Linda), as well as eight grandchildren, Bobby, Jonathan, Gavin, Rebecca, Rachel, Sara, Kaitlyn and Olivia and two great grandchildren, Ava and baby Bennett. She is survived by her sister, Olga Ziffle, sisters-in-law, Vicki Bugera and Sadie Bugera, brother-in-law, Archie Scott, and many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Anne thoroughly enjoyed her entire career as an elementary school teacher teaching in Britannia Beach from 1965, and after closure of the Britannia Beach mine and school, taught at Garibaldi Highlands school. After retiring, she continued as a substitute teacher at all the various schools in Howe Sound School District and then various schools in Sechelt when she and her husband moved there in 1988. She was a woman of great patience and discipline. While raising her four young children (all one year apart in age), she went back to teach during the day when her eldest was five. She travelled three nights a week to UBC to complete her Bachelor’s Degree staying up all hours to complete her assignments. She enjoyed languages and grew up speaking Ukrainian (as her Austrian parents migrated to a Ukrainian speaking town in Manitoba). At age 18, when she went to Teacher’s College, she learned to speak English. She also learned and spoke French as it was one of the subjects she taught her students, in addition to speaking some German, Latin and Spanish. She loved to write children’s books and wrote three of them, one for each of her three grandsons, which were given to them as a special gift from her. She was a beautiful artist who loved to paint, both in acrylics and water colours, her paintings now displayed in her families’ homes. She loved working with clay and created clay sculptures and beautiful mermaids for each of her daughters and granddaughters. She loved music and played the mandolin, her favourite song being “Somewhere My Love” by Doctor Zhivago accompanied by her husband on guitar and her eldest daughter on piano. She loved her garden and she could never plant enough flowers and always had a vast array of vegetables. She loved the outdoors, and fishing on the ocean in Howe Sound, for salmon and jigging for cod. She also loved the serenity of the fresh water lakes where her son lived. She always managed to catch the most fish. Although she was disciplined with the raising of her children and grandchildren, work and her students, she was also quiet and gentle; she had a great sense of humor, a very quick wit and was a joy to be around. She loved her husband and her whole family unconditionally, nothing meant more to her than them. They will always remember the words she would say to each one of them, “Love you so much, Now and Forever”.

Due to COVID19, a limited service is being held at the Squamish Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 12:00 with burial and reception following.
