Obituary for Janice Lynne Holt (Newton)

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our mom, Janice Holt. Jan passed away peacefully on Saturday January 4th, 2020 in Squamish with her daughter by her side.

Jan was born in Victoria in 1948 to parents Joy and Alfred Newton. She shared a charmed upbringing with her 3 siblings.

Jan started a career with Air Canada in Montreal at 18. After moving to Vancouver she met Norm and they were married in 1970. They had a son Myles (1975) and daughter Charmayne (1978). Jan changed her career and joined the RCMP as an Office Manager. She and Norm loved to travel and spent many summers on Salt Spring Island at the Newton family cabin.

Growing up, she played all sports but excelled at track .. her record in the 400m sustained for 25 years. She was a talented sewer, knitter and craftswomen extraordinaire. Her favourite sport became golf and she spent many years enjoying the game with good friends. She also was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and took great interest in Tai chi.

Jan was predeceased by her husband (2010) and is survived by children Myles and Charmayne and her 3 granddaughters Rosie, Lily and Evan. She is also survived by her sister Patty (Jack) and brothers John (Siobhan) and Doug, sister in law Wendy, brother in law Don (Jean) and sister in law Mavis. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews and great friends.

In lieu of flowers a donation to Parkinson’s Society British Columbia would be appreciated. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Saturday, February 01at The Redwoods Golf Course in Langley.
