Obituary for Christopher Patrick "Chris" McCrum

Christopher was born in North Vancouver. His childhood was spent in Garibaldi Highlands with his parents Ulrike und Patrick McCrum.

The most important friends in his young life were Christineli Penn, Michael Schwarz, Michael Mackenzie, Troy Lyne and later Richard Mazzotti.

He spent almost every summer holiday in his mother’s homeland Germany. He gave all a child’s love to his grandparents, who were so proud of him.

At the age of nine he lived for a year in Australia with his parents. Because of his fluent German he spent three years with his Uncle Jochen, Aunt Ruth and Cousin Tine in North Rhine Westphalia and there he attained his high school diploma.

Once back in Canada his free spirit and his love of the outdoors became more and more apparent. He studied forestry and afterwards formed his own company. He began with trail building, soon turning his activities into many varied and interesting jobs for B.C. Parks and numerous mountain lodges.

During spring, summer and autumn he worked incredibly hard for his livelihood but always finding time for volunteer work, biking, hiking, water sports and jobs around house and garden. With his energy and open heart he inspired many of his friends. Skiing was his passion in the winter.

Eight years ago he met the love of his life: Ellie. They complemented each other in a wonderful way in their personalities, lifestyles, outlook on life and their interests. Their future seemed so bright ...

His death will leave a terrible void for family and friends.

Rest in peace, our beloved Christopher.
