Obituary for Dr. Alan Lam

Dr. Alan Lam

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doctor Alan Lam on the morning of Saturday June 26th, after a brief illness. Alan was born in Canton China and grew up in Hong Kong before traveling with his brother Mathias to Montreal to be educated as doctors, eventually settling in Squamish in 1974 with his first wife Sandy, with whom he had two sons.
He served the town tirelessly as a family physician at the Squamish Medical Clinic and as a surgeon at Squamish General Hospital until his retirement in 2016.

Alan loved socializing, traveling, golf, poker and blackjack. A foodie at heart, he was always up for a traditional Cantonese meal, especially when seafood was involved. He was a diehard supporter of the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens and never missed an opportunity to criticize the Sedin twins.

A life-long Catholic, Alan attended Mass every week as long as he was physically able.
Knowing his days on earth could e limited, he wisely traveled to Hong Kong with his sons in 2019 to visit with family one last time, even planning to return again one day.
Alan is survived by his sons Gary and Derek, daughters-in-law Mariette and Shannon, grandson Elliott, sisters Teresa and Mary, and many cousins, nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Hong Kong and Cincinnati areas.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Elaine, who he missed everyday in 2014 and by his brothers John & Mathias (Matt).

He will be remembered as a hard work, a comedian and a loving father and husband.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to any Parkinson's Charity.
Special thanks to the Staff at Squamish General Hospital, many of whom were friends and co-workers for so many years, for making his last moments peaceful and comfortable and for treating him with the utmost respect.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday July 9, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church 435 Garibaldi Highlands
